 HATIKVA MEDAL
State Medal 2008/5768
With new color pad printing technology

Hatikva, the Israeli national anthem, expresses the yearning over 2 millenia for Jerusalem, a yearning which united Jews the world-over. The singing of Hatikva always arouses a feeling of unity that we are one people, pride at the rebirth of an independent Jewish state in Eretz Israel after so many years, and hope for a better future of peace and security for Jews everywhere.
This exquisite Hatikva medal has been struck in honor the 60th year of Israeli Independence.

Obverse:
A collection of lines, symbolizing Jews scattered in many countries and different continents, create a Star of David, the eternal symbol of the Jewish people. The word “Hatikva” appears in Hebrew and English on the medal. The Hebrew is composed of letters in the handwriting of David Ben Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister, and the English word is in the handwriting of Theodor Herzl, who first envisioned a Jewish state in Eretz Israel. Above the symbol the words “The Jewish soul is yearning” and on the bottom “Jerusalem”.

Reverse:
On the reverse 6 figures dance around the walls of Jerusalem; the opening and closing lines of the anthem “dance” around the outside.

Edge:
